It worked eventually. The trouble shooting extensions and themes had instructions titled for XP. The menu path for Firefox was a bit different for 10.1 rel. it might be updated for the new version.

Options, Options, Advanced, General tab, un-check hardware acceleration.

It did eventually work. Though there was a false 'Firefox is not responding message'. I was ( not ) moving fast enough so the 'not responding' message went away and things started working.

I am very glad as I had loaded Chrome in the interim and Chrome is NOT Firefox. And I am positively allergic to IE.

Thanks for your help. Please pass along the instruction update to the help screen folks.

Hey hricjd,

Have you tried starting Firefox in Safe Mode? Hold down "shift" while Firefox is starting up. If the crash doesn't happen in Safe Mode, you should read Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems.

There is also a lot of useful stuff in the Troubleshoot Firefox crashes (closing or quitting unexpectedly) Knowledge Base article. If you've recently upgraded, you might want to check out this article as well.

Hopefully this helps!
