Suddenly my firefox loads SO slowly. I launch firefox first and then Safari and Safari loads pages before firefox enen begins too. Also a LOT more adds show pages I looked at previously.

Do you use NoScript? There's possibly an issue with NoScript where certain settings cause Firefox to load HTTPS pages on startup very slowly.
