When I click and open firefox, the comcast homepage opens and shows that I am signed in with my screen name. When I get the next screen with a preview of 5 emails, the option is to chick on the message, see entire list of emails. When I click on that it recycles back to the same preview screen. I can access the internet at that screen, but no access to my emails.. the automated troubleshooting did not work, please advise me what to do Charles Garrod

Many site issues can be caused by corrupt cookies or cache. In order to try to fix these problems, the first step is to clear both cookies and the cache. Note: This will temporarily log you out of all sites you're logged in to. To clear cache and cookies do the following:

  1. Go to Firefox > History > Clear recent history or (if no Firefox button is shown) go to Tools > Clear recent history.
  2. Under "Time range to clear", select "Everything".
  3. Now, click the arrow next to Details to toggle the Details list active.
  4. From the details list, check Cache and Cookies and uncheck everything else.
  5. Now click the Clear now button.

Further information can be found in the Clear your cache, history and other personal information in Firefox article.

There is no need to clear all the cookies.

Clear the cache and the cookies from sites that cause problems.

"Clear the Cache":

  • Tools > Options > Advanced > Network > Cached Web Content: "Clear Now"

"Remove Cookies" from sites causing problems:

  • Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: "Show Cookies"

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).

  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe mode start window or otherwise make changes.

I tried everything suggested and nothing helped, I just read a comment by Bob Rankin and he suggests that I go into my HOSTS file in 32\drivers\etc\Windows\system32\hosts and look for strange or unkown hosts names. I will try that

A hosts file should work system wide and affect all programs (web browsers).

Try to boot the computer in Windows Safe mode with network support (press F8 on the boot screen) as a test to see if that helps.

I will give it a try
