I have windows 7 and have been using Firefox for the last several months and now I can' open it up for some reason.

I've been using firefox as my principle browser for quite some time. I normally just click on it once and it opens to the home page with google search in the middle of the page. I downloaded some e-mail attachment about a job and that's when it seemed to act up. I ran a scan on my computer and it says there is no problems but I still can't open up Firefox home page by clicking on the fox/world icon.

Try the Firefox Safe Mode to see how it works there. The Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode, which disables most add-ons.

(If you're not using it, switch to the Default theme.)

  • You can open the Firefox 4.0+ Safe Mode by holding the Shift key when you use the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
  • Or use the Help menu item and click on the Restart with Add-ons Disabled... menu item while Firefox is running.

Don't select anything right now, just use "'Start in Safe Mode" To exit the Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before using the Firefox shortcut (without the Shift key) to open it again. If it is good in the Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one.

Try running the Microsoft Security Scanner to double-check that this isn't caused by malware (there was a recent issue with this). Here are those instructions - Firefox 18 crashes on startup due to malware - how to fix

If that doesn't fix it, the next step is to check to see if the crash happens in safe mode
