I recently installed Firefox on my Windows XP computer to use instead of Internet Explorer. Any changes I make to the bookmarks (additions or deletions) go away when the computer is restarted. The changes do stay if I'm only shutting down Firefox and then go back into it again. This problem does not happen on Internet Explorer. Do you have any ideas? Thanks.

hello, do you use any external clean-up or sandboxing software that might interfere here?

Problems with bookmarks and history not working properly can be caused by a corrupted places.sqlite database file.

You can check for problems with the places.sqlite database file in the Firefox profile folder.

Which security software (firewall, anti-virus) do you have?

There's nothing that I know of. I have HistoryKill 2010 but that runs every time I close the browser as well as at start up. Just closing the browser doesn't affect the bookmarks.

I updated everything it asked for on the first link. I had already tried everything on the 2nd link including deleting the sqlite file. I did notice there is a places.sqlite.corrupt file which happens to be the identical size as the file I deleted.

I am using ESET Smart Security as my antivirus software.

I also ran the scan several times to clean up the Places.sqlite file. The problem is the same...

You need to remove all places.* files and that includes places.sqlite-corrupted files and possible temporary shm and wal files.
