Hello there. Why do my tabs sometimes change color from white background/black text into dark blue background (like the top bar, sort of blends in the color)?

Hello there

For some reason the tabs on top of the browser sometimes change color from white with black test into dark blue (just like the window bar, sort of blends in) with black test, which makes it hard to see the text!

I have attached a screen shot of this problem:

The only thing that fixes it is restarting the browser. And I have no idea why it happens, it just does all of a sudden when I am not even doing anything different.

Thank you!

I think your using Persona theme.

Try firefox with default theme

Type about:addons in URL > Apperance > Choose Default theme

Are you using Private Browsing mode when this happens?

  • Tools > Options > Privacy > Firefox will: "Use custom settings for history"
  • Deselect: [ ] "Always use private browsing mode"

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Firefox uses the about: protocol to access built-in about: pages that you can open via the location bar just like you open web pages.

Thank you for your suggestions. No, I haven't even used Private Browsing before. I started in Safe Mode and didn't find problems with any extensions. This is a list of my current extensions, by the way:

Adblock Plus Adblock Plus Pop-up Addon 0.7 Download YouTube Videos as MP4 1.5.18 Flashblock 1.5.17 HyperSnap Helper 2.0 IDM CC 7.3.51 RightToClick 2.9.4 Troubleshooter 1.1a Wiktionary and Google Translate 6.3.1 YouTube to MP3 1.2.3

The problem only happened twice so far and I have been using the browser ever since I posted this. I find this very odd. If it does happen again, is there any step I can take in order to report the problem? Like perhaps access a certain log file or something and upload it here?

Thank you

A possible cause of such issues with the display is hardware acceleration in Firefox.

  • Tools > Options > Advanced > General > Browsing: "Use hardware acceleration when available"

Hello,

Try Firefox Safe Mode to see if the problem goes away. Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode, which disables most add-ons.

(If you're not using it, switch to the Default theme.)

  • You can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by holding the Shift key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
  • Or open the Help menu and click on the Restart with Add-ons Disabled... menu item while Firefox is running.

Once you get the pop-up, just select "'Start in Safe Mode"

If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one. Please follow the Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems article for that.

To exit the Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.

When you figure out what's causing your issues, please let us know. It might help other users who have the same problem.

Thank you.
