Is it possible for the Firefox CLOSE button on MAC OS to function like native applications ... eg Safari?

I would like to know why FIREFOX doesn't act like a native mac app when it comes to the red-close button. Or maybe it does but I am not sure how to activate it.

Basically when pressing the red X it closes and loses all saved session information. Would be good to have it act like, say, Safari, where it saves the session information and just runs in the background instead of actually closing.
