I can't sign up because the site says my email address is in use, but when I ask to have my user name sent to me, you never send it.
Firefox says my email address is in use, but even though I ask your site to send me my user name (and plan to use that to get my other forgotten information), you never send it to me. How can I sync my accounts since I can't sign in.

You are signed in now. Presumably the system now has you sign in using initially using Identity / Persona
Your forgotten information will be available if you know your user name/s
- What names did you use previously on this forum ??
If your problem is with Sync, your email address is your username.
I don't think I signed in to this website before, but I must have used my email address to sign in when I set up my firefox. I don't remember my user name, and the system won't e-mail it to me when I tell them I've forgotten it. Is signing in to this Mozilla support the same thing as signing into Firefox itself and personalizing my own browser? I have two computers in my house, and the Firefox Menu button looks completely different on each one, although both computers say they have the latest version.

Can you connect to the account via this page?

You need to sign into use Sync.
Firefox Sync is the method to allow Firefox exchange data with a big online system and then make some things such as bookmarks similar on both of your own computers.
If you have lost or forgotten the password for sync you that can be reset but you will need to reset (start again) if you do not have the key or access to the email account.

Firefox itself does not need you to sign in. Your computer's Operating System may do (It may be wise to set it up so it does need you to login), but that is not going to ask for your email address.
Some other uses of the computer may also need you to sign in; sometimes from Firefox.
Presumably you are able to see and use your emails ok on both of your computers ?
