Hi,

Im running into this bug since i did a fresh install of Windows to 8.1

Since im on windows 8.1 facebook wont play youtube videos in any timeline, it simply opens a new tab, directs me to youtube and starts playing there.. (realy annoying)

It starts to load but opens the video in a new tab instead of showing the video in the timeline itself.

- Im on firefox 26. - Ive debugged facebook, - Reset settings of firefox - Reinstalled Flash player 12 (even tested 11,7 & 11,9) - Ive tried IE + Chrome - Disabled / Enabled ActiveX in IE - Disabled / Enabled hardware acceleration in flash settings - Installed Realplayer - Installed Shockwave - Went thru various troubleshooters on the forums

I dont know what to do anymore.. any suggestions?

If this issue also occurs on other internet browsers, this is most likely a Windows issue or an Adobe Flashplayer issue.

Does this issue occur when you are running the Windows Operating System in Safe Mode with Network Connections enabled?

Thank you for replying.

I have tried safemode and the problem stays. It still opens a seperate tab and plays the video on youtube instead of the facebook timeline..

So must be something in Flash or Windows indeed.. :(

it could be a Facebook issue as well.
I don't have Facebook, so I can't test it to see if it occurs on my end too.

To confirm, the issue occurs in other browsers as well?

I suggest contacting either the Microsoft or Adobe support team for further assistance.

You can check if there is a shield icon to the left of the "Site Identity Button" (globe/padlock) on the location bar that mixed active content is blocked.

Cor-el :: Looks like a possibility.. although i do not have a shield.. everything sayes its ok and allowed..

But ill dive a little deeper into "Mixed Content" options.. maybe theres something inthere thats buggin :)


I also updated firefox to 27 today and things got worse.. Now not only Youtube playback is blocked and opens a new tab.. also Mixcloud and Soundcloud are blocked and act the same..

Before only youtube was affected on the Facebook timeline.. now everything seems to be blockd and opening a new tab to play content instead of playing in the FB timeline..

Thanks for your tips.. im gonna take this and hustle until i find whats going wrong :)

I dont know what happend.. but somehow the problem took care of itself..

This afternoon, out of the blue it workes and nothing seems wrong anymore..

To be honnest.. this raises a ton of questions for me as to how and WHY?

Now im curious about why its working and what was wrong before..

Just jumping out of this would be unfair for those who still suffer the same problems as i had..

There has to be a fix to all this that people can use and i want to know what it is.. lol

Since we don't know for certain what the issue was, we really can't track it down and come up with a working solution.

It is good to hear that your issue is fixed, but it is not impossible that it may return.

I was to soon.. the problem is back..

This time its opening a tab when i try to play a video on my timeline..

BUT..

Videos posted in a comment play fine within the facebook timeline..

Please scan your computer for malware and other infections.

Im running a clean install of Windows 8.1 wich has windows Defender..

Everything comes out clean.. No infections or what ever..

Breaking my mind over this.. :(

Windows Defender isn't the best protection.
Can you please try at least one of the scanners that I listed above.
They can detect more threats than Windows Defender.

I am not in any way discouraging the use of Windows Defender, but I'm just warning you that it isn't the best and has some holes in the scanning that can be filed with an additional scanner.

Note that no single malware scanning/detection program can detect and catch all possible malware, so you always need to scan with more than one of such programs to be sure to catch more possible infection causes.

ok i tried a few and nothing came up..

No suprise because straight after a clean instal of windows 8.1 youtube playback is blocked in the timeline and opens a new tab on youtube itself..

I just do not understand why a youtube video in a comment is not blocked and playes asif nothing is wrong..

Youtube video plays fine when posting as a comment in timeline posts..

Did you contact Facebook directly or use their Help Community?

I don't know the Facebook email or phone number. Contacting them by phone is the best to get answers.
You can also try the Help Community.


Does the problem still occur when you try the following:

  • Run the same Facebook account on a different computer
  • Run a different Facebook account on a different computer
  • Run a different Facebook account on the computer in question
