How do I delete "system" folders on each gmail account?

I gather these system folders I'm referring to may be called local folders. For example, "Inbox." Particularly I am wanting to delete "Sent" folders. I have many gmail accounts and in Thunderbird, some act differently than others. Each gmail account populates a "[Gmail]" folder with many subfolders consistently. I assume these are remote folders on gmail's server. I can delete any of those, but don't want to do so. Some of my Gmail accounts in addition to having the obligatory "Inbox" folder have a "Sent" folder with no right-click options to delete and some do not have the "Sent" folder showing at all. I don't want the "Sent" folder to show on all of them since it is already featured in my "[Gmail]" subfolders. I simply don't need ready access to the system "Sent" folder and don't want to look at it. How do I get rid of it?
