navigation bar is there and can be typed in but does not respond. Home page is open and can search thru search engine. Anything can be clicked on and open.

Also, the search engines bar is empty, and does not seem to respond to getting new ones.
I think this started when I updated to firefox 28.0

Hello,

Could you check if this happens in safe mode?

Maybe your localstore.rdf file are corrupted, then unhide the hidden files and folders, go to your profile and rename or delete the localstore.rdf file, remember before delete or rename the file close the Firefox.

As in not responding, do you mean that you can type but you can't actually connect to the website (e.g. typing www.google.com and pressing enter)? (Leave response in reply)

Here's what you can try: Press the arrow icon in the address bar or magnifying glass in the search bar instead of pressing the Enter key to connect to the website. Does it work? If you are trying to access the website by pressing the enter key, it may be broken or you might just be pressing the wrong one. (Leave response in reply)

not the key, when you hit reload it works, but if you change the address either with typing or the dropdown menu, the horizontal arrow does not click

Try to open a new window to see if it works better in the new window.

Do a clean reinstall and delete the Firefox program folder before (re)installing a fresh copy of the current Firefox release.

Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.

If possible uninstall your current Firefox version to cleanup the Windows registry and settings in security software.

  • Do NOT remove "personal data" when you uninstall your current Firefox version, because this will remove all profile folders and you lose personal data like bookmarks and passwords including data in profiles created by other Firefox versions.

Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.

  • (32 bit Windows) "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\"
  • (64 bit Windows) "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\"

Your bookmarks and other personal data are stored in the Firefox profile folder and won't be affected by an uninstall and (re)install, but make sure that "remove personal data" is NOT selected when you uninstall Firefox.

If you keep having problems then also create a new profile.

It did not solve the problem but I created a second profile which works normally. Now is there a way to fix my old profile so as not to lose everything like bookmarks and passwords, etc.? thanks for the help by the way.

Interesting. It only worked once in the new profile, then it * quit and is doing the same thing as the first one, not working. I created a third profile and it did the same thing, worked once and then stopped. Also the search engine choices had search engines and went blank like the original profile

I have figured out the problem. Firefox will not let me replace the home page. If I do I lose control of the navigation bar and the search engine bar goes blank. Is there a way around this?

Is that the home page setting in Options > General ?

  • Tools > Options > General > Startup: Home page

Does this only happen in the old profile?

Did you check for issues caused by extensions?

Note that you can recover data from an old profile.

If the new profile works then you can transfer files from a previously used profile to the new profile, but be cautious not to copy corrupted files to avoid carrying over the problem

OK, so I still have the problem, but I am getting somewhere. I have allowed firefox original homepage to stay, plus added my own. So now 2 homepages open and all is well. My navigation bar works and also the search engine bar has search engines in it, of which firefox uses for its home page. BUT, if no firefox is open and I click a link from say my email to open a page, then only one page opens and the same old problem is back, with nothing working.

If a page happens to be open when I click a link, no problem, everything works fine.
