Thunderbird Icon now has red marker with number?
Hi.
I have just downloaded and installed Thunderbird 24.4.0 on my Mac - OS 10.06.8. I have connected correctly with my GMail account and have started downloading / syncing my entire email account into Thunderbird. It all seemed? to be going well .... Then there appeared on the Thunderbird Icon a Red marker with a number. I shall here attempt to insert a link to a pic of the Icon with the Marker I have uploaded to PhotoBucket. (Unsure if I can embed a pick from PhotoBucket here?

The Number 32032 corresponds with the number appearing beside my Thunderbird InBox. This number has stayed the same now for nearly 2 hours! ... There still seems to be 'activity' with regards syncing!! The peculiar thing is that the All Mail Thunderbird folder says 23040 ?
My GMail account has 44395 emails. Has something gone wrong! Is it just slow and strange the first time I sync with GMail!
Any thoughts! Explanations or advice would be good. Thanks in advance. C

Now that the process has started, it might be advisable to not tamper with the folder structure, but if a folder is created in TB, it's possible to turn the synchronization on or off to regulate the download process (right-click a folder, Subscribe...). I believe most Gmail users unsubscribe to the All Mail folder.

Sorry! Correction! ,,,,'The peculiar thing is that the 'All Mail' Thunderbird folder says 32040 ?
Many thanks for this sfhowes. - I now understand that GMail has bandwidth restrictions once a certain download limit has been reached - which I guess is 32032 emails?
Reading the details in the topic you drew my attention to seems to suggest that eg. creating folders and dropping InBox categorised emails into them could help in many ways. Unsure however if this should be done in GMail or in Thunderbird with those emails that are downloaded already. Just concerned that if I emptied the InBox in Thunderbird in this way that it might start downloading the same emails again!! from GMail.
Perhaps I should assume that all my emails will download eventually! … but that it will just be very slow.
Many thanks again.

Many thanks. - I shall leave the process running as is for the next 24 hours. I will then review the situation and post here on the progress / outcome.
To be honest I had no idea there was an 'ALL Mail' folder in GMail ! :-(
All of this adventure makes me think I should consider looking in more detail how GMail works and getting more control through filtering etc. But all of this takes time. :-)
At any rate many thanks for your time, your help and for your advice.
Much appreciated.
