I am on Thunderbird 29.0 - got upgraded to a beta version unintentionally.

Now, when I start typing in an address when writing an email no names pop up, even though the beginning letters clearly refer to an address or name in my address book. Every email address has to be typed in from scratch. only red letters appear. Problem.

or locate via

  • 'menu icon' > 'Options' > 'Account Settings' > 'Composition & Addressing' for the mail account

Click on 'Global Addressing Prefernces' button to open this link

  • 'Tools' > 'Options' > 'composition' > 'Addressing tab

When addressing messages, look for matching entries in

  • select: 'Local Address Books'
  • click on OK

Back in 'Account Settings' > 'Composition & Addressing' ....at the bottom where it says 'Addressbooks for address auto complete'

  • click on 'Edit'
