Hi I have for some time now had a really annoying problem with firefox. For some reason it stops suggesting/remembering new sites I visit, but it does remember some of the old sites I have visited before it stopped working. If I want to visit facebook, I will type f and it will suggest facebook.com. If I want to visit youtube, I have to write everything like I never visited the site, and the same thing happens next time I visit youtube.

So after a fresh install it works for some time, and then it suddenly stops working.

I have tried resetting firefox, completely unisntall/remove all data, not logging in to my firefox sync account, creating a new account, checked the setting that clears all data when I close the browser.

This can be caused by a problem with the places.sqlite database that stores bookmarks and history.

If you use Sync then best is to disconnect Sync temporarily during troubleshooting.

This can be caused by a problem with the places.sqlite and favicons.sqlite databases in the Firefox profile folder.

  • use "Verify Integrity" button on the "Help -> Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page

If errors are reported with "Verify Integrity", close and restart Firefox and retry.

If "Verify Integrity" cannot repair places.sqlite, rename/remove all places.sqlite and favicons.sqlite files in the Firefox profile folder. Firefox will rebuild places.sqlite and restore the bookmarks from a recent JSON backup in the bookmarkbackups folder.

  • keep a backup copy of places.sqlite in case a new places.sqlite database has to be created

Hello cor-el Thank you for the quick response.

I have tried the "Verify Integrity" button, and it did not report any errors. I still tried to remove the places.sqlite and favicons.sqlite just to be sure.

The history is now reset, and firefox is working again. I have however seen this before, after I completely removed firefox and reinstalled. I will wait a few days, and if the problem is gone, I will mark the problem as solved.

I now have the same problem again.

I attached a small GIF to illustrate the problem.

Firefox suggests I visit facebook.com when I type "f", youtube.com when i type "y", but when I go to a new site "smart.dk" it will not suggest/remember the site when i type "s"
