I have the same problem too. Lost all my bookmarks after this latest update. I have tried and tried to import them from my backup file but nothing happens. Where my bookmarks tool bar folders are usually up top is just blank now just like all the rest of my folders and bookmarks and I am totally frustrated. Oh, how I wish I could go back to before I updated to 3.6.6.

I'm using Windows Vista too on my laptop where I'm having this problem. When I did this same 3.6.6 update to Firefox on my desktop computer which has Windows XP I didn't lose my bookmarks. Isn't that strange?

I'm having the same problems. I've tried closing and restarting Firefox but each time I open the browser there is a different issue: Either the folders in my bookmarks are missing or mis-named or I can see the links but an unable to open them. These issues started with the 3.6.6 automatic update. I'm running Windows Vista.

I face the same situation here after updating to 3.6.6. It's pretty scary that the bookmark is gone because I didn't back them up.

Same Problem. I didn't even want to update Firefox. It just happened. I lost some important links and I'm so mad that I'm going back to explorer!

Anonymous, I did back my bookmarks up but as many times as I have tried I cannot get them to import back in. After trying that so many times I uninstalled Mozilla and reinstalled it but that did nothing to help. I have given up and moved on to Opera for my browser. And, would you believe those same bookmarks that I can't get Mozilla Firefox to import are now in my Opera browser. Pulled them right in the first try. I am using Windows Vista on the computer I lost them on just like I see others here saying too. There is a serious problem with Mozilla Firefox and I think it's pretty strange that no one connected with it has made any effort at all to read our messages and try to help us. It's a shame because I liked that browser but, like I said, I have moved on to Opera because my bookmarks are there and also because nobody connected with Mozilla has made any effort to help since I posted here.

I have the same exact problem. I know it's not the end of the world to be without the bookmarks but it's the point that now I have to go back and bookmark everything AGAIN! This is crap.... I also did not want to update to a newer version and never thought to back up my bookmarks b/c I didn't think they would just get lost for no reason...

Hi Folks,

Had this problem today with 3.6.12 what a pain! Here is how I fixed this issue:

1. To fix your bookmarks:

in the start menu : type

%APPDATA%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\

or go to

C:\Users\yourname\AppData\Local\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles

If you are lucky, there will be a few .default folders, one will contain a folder called bookmarkbackups ( Firefox creates backups by default ), copy one of the .json files to your desktop, lets call it mybackup.json

In firefox, go to Bookmarks, Organise bookmarks…, Import, Filename->mybackup.json

Voila , my bookmarks were restored.

Next go to Firefox ->Options ->Update -> and tick "Ask me what to do" :)

To fix / get back your addons/extensions:

The same folder that contained your bookmarks will contain a directory call /extensions. Copy the folders inside to a folder on your desktop, lets call it my_extensions.

In Firefox go to Help_>Troubleshooting Info...->open containing folder.

copy the contents of my_extensions to this folder. Restart Firefox.

Sorted. ( or at least I was - try these steps at your own risk. :)

One other thing - if you use your own home made addons, you may find it locked as the addons dont provide secure updates. To fix that kind of thing here is what I would do:

In the browser type: about:config "Here be dragons" - Yes, I promise Rightclick onscreen -> New -> Boolean extensions.checkUpdateSecurity set to false restart Firefox.

  • Note: you will be nagged on the add on screen to turn this off when you add a new addon, but for me, I'm comfortable enough to ignore that kind of stuff, but its up to you - again update at your own risk ;)

[ Sorry for the disclaimers ;) ]

I really think Mozilla design dropped the ball a little on this one. Its so bad for their rep to allow this kind of thing to occur, without telling people how to fix it.

Hope that helps someone /H.
