Had to reinstall FireFox. I deleted the following folder as said in the help room; "C:\programe files\Mozilla FireFox" I then reinstalled FireFox (latest version) and after installing, I opened up FireFox and a pop-up was displayed saying the the file "install.rdf" could not be found, please notify the author. I clicked on "Okay" and FireFox opened up. Could you provide some info about this?

The install.rdf file will be part of an add-on/extension.

If you open the add-ons manager, is there any error message or message about pending installation for any of your add-ons. To access the add-ons manager select Tools > Add-ons.

If you do have an add-on with an error messgae, that is likely to be the one causing the problem. You can try uninstalling the add-on. If the normal method to uninstall does not work, you can manually uninstall the add-on, details of how to do that are shown in this article - http://kb.mozillazine.org/Uninstalling_add-ons

Another thing you can try:

  1. Open the profile folder in Windows Explorer - for details see the profiles article
  2. Close Firefox
  3. In Windows Explorer, delete extensions.cache, extensions.rdf, extensions.ini and compatibility.ini
  4. Now in Windows Explorer open the extensions sub folder
  5. If it contains a folder called staged-xpi, delete the staged-xpi folder
  6. Restart Firefox to see if that resolves the problem
