I installed Firefox 6 onto my new Macbook Pro and regardless of what I type into the address bar, it goes to a website for a Mexican presidential candidate, Emilio Gonzalez Marquez.

The address I type in (say www.google.com) remains in the address bar, but it goes to the same page. I click on any link on the website and it remains on this page but with the address for that new page in the address bar.

I tried uninstalling Firefox, downloading a new copy and reinstalling it but I had the same problem. I changed the home page and still nothing.

A possible cause is a problem with the file places.sqlite that stores the bookmarks and the history.

Thanks cor-el.

I did a search on my computer for "places.sqlite" and there is no such file.

I also navigated to the Mozilla folder in Library/ApplicationSupport/

and there are no sub folders, and only one file "global.regs", it has a file size of 0kb.

So unfortunately if that's the problem the solutions on that article are no good.
