What email? TL handshake is what it does to connect if there is a failure between that it will not connect.

I use Earthlink Webmail. I pay for this service since dropping Earthlink as my ISP back in about 2000. Since I updated Firefox to the new Quantum 58.0 my Webmail started to have connection problems. Now Webmail will not open at all. All I get is this flashing with the refresh button. I have gone to other servers like Chrome and Safari and they can open Webmail. So, (1) why is this happening and (2) what can be done to fix it? Years ago Netscape was my favorite server but that ended and I became a Firefox user. It offers functions that other servers do not have that I really like and use regularly. This new problem is a huge annoyance. Would upgrade to Firefox 59.0 beta help to fix this issue? I would like to have this issue resolved ASAP if that is at all possible. Thank You.

Try to disable IPv6 (check for other possible causes as well).

You can try these steps in case of issues with web pages:

You can reload web page(s) and bypass the cache to refresh possibly outdated or corrupted files.

  • hold down the Shift key and left-click the Reload button
  • press "Ctrl + F5" or press "Ctrl + Shift + R" (Windows,Linux)
  • press "Command + Shift + R" (Mac)

Clear the cache and remove the cookies from websites that cause problems via the "3-bar" Firefox menu button (Options/Preferences).

"Clear the cache:

  • Options/Preferences -> Privacy & Security -> Cached Web Content: "Clear Now"

"Remove the cookies" from websites that cause problems.

  • Options/Preferences -> Privacy & Security -> "Use custom settings for history" -> Cookies: "Show Cookies"

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • switch to the DEFAULT theme: "3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Appearance
  • do NOT click the "Refresh Firefox" button on the Safe Mode start window

Sorry, I don't know what IPv6 is.

Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6) is a version of the Internet Protocol (IP) that is designed to succeed Internet Protocol version 4 (IPv4).

See : https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IPv6

You can try to disable it (as suggested by cor-el) by typing in the adress bar : about:config (press Enter) (promise to be careful if asked)

Then type in the search bar and look for the preference :

network.dns.disableIPv6

And set its value to true

Then close and restart Firefox in order for the change to take effect.

I talked with a neighbor who is a computer whiz. He told me to refresh Firefox by holding down the shift key and double clicking on the Firefox icon, then in the box that comes up, click on refresh. It worked. Thanks for the response to my problem, hope this helps someone else.
