In my Thunderbird, I have also an account that belongs to the mail adress of my wife ( a Gmail account), in case that she wants to write an eMail on my PC. All "query" options are disabled ( query when starting Thunderbird, query all xxx minutes, query when new messages arrive on server). Nevertheless, everyday a few emails adressed to my wife are still displayed in my Thunderbird. What else can I do to avoid this ? As described at the beginning, I don't want to delete my wifes account completely from Thunderbird.

I suggest you create a new profile with just her account. Thunderbird is unable to ignore an active account. To do that,

  1. click help>troubleshootinginformation
  2. scroll own to 'profiles' and click 'about:profiles'
  3. click the 'create profiles' button
  4. click next
  5. for shortcut, enter something short, such as WIFEPROFILE
  6. then, click finish and launch
  7. now, in new profile, set up her gmail account
  8. now, exit thunderbird
  9. assuming you use windows, rightclick on the thunderbird desktop icon and select properties
  10. on the target line where it shows thunderbird.exe add a space and then -p save and exit.
  11. now, when you click the thunderbird icon, profile manager will start and you can select your profile or hers
  12. I suggest you now remove her account from your profile
  13. next, enjoy the experience of 'happy wife, happy life'  :)
