Its a random chance at the start of a random day that it crashes on startup, freeze then crash. The only plugins i have installed are Java and Shockwave flash. I tried every method possible to the best of my knowledge but nothing worked. Eventually it let me back on, but it is still annoying regardless, as it happens nearly every time i start up Firefox.

If you are actually seeing Firefx crash hopefully it is generating and submitting Crash Reports; and the crash ID's would potentially be useful, they start with bp- and are obtained by navigating to about:crashes

We're sorry to hear that Firefox is crashing. In order to assist you better, please follow the steps below to provide us crash IDs to help us learn more about your crash.

  1. Enter about:crashes in the Firefox address bar and press Enter. A Submitted Crash Reports list will appear, similar to the one shown below.
  2. Copy the 5 most recent Report IDs that start with bp- and then go back to your forum question and paste that into the "Post a Reply" box.

This was what i got:

Report ID Date Submitted f89d132d-49bb-441e-9461-13bbead835a4 6/8/2014 3:10 PM 12d49301-afca-416d-88a2-12f731b347e8 6/8/2014 1:15 PM d6e01e89-96d0-48a2-874e-6d2f0af3db45 6/7/2014 8:03 PM 3c906cb2-a65f-4cca-bbbc-7808a807db42 6/4/2014 8:54 PM dca706f5-c217-437f-8a4a-573c8ba5d473 5/25/2014 12:13 PM

But as you notice, none of them were today, more like 2-3 weeks ago. I do have the crash reporter enabled, but its not making a crash report. All Firefox did was load up, then freeze, then stops responding.

OK, thanks for that but old crash IDs that do not start with bp- do not show any useful information. (I did check for bp-f89d132d-49bb-441e-9461-13bbead835a4)

Please first of all try starting in Firefox's safe mode that may work or at least allow Firefox to generate a crash report. Holding the Shift key whilst clicking the start icon for Firefox is one method of doing that.

If Firefox crashes check to see if there are any new crash ID s and if so paste them into your next reply.

As apparently Firefox only sometimes crashes you may also be able to try the Firefox Reset, but note that removes any Firefox extensions you may have installed, and so you may wish to bookmark the homesites of any extensions you have before using that option.

Please post back to say what you have tried and what happened.

Does this generally occur after you have recently restarted Windows, and you are starting up Firefox for the first time in that session of Windows? Or does it happen after waking Windows from "hibernation" or "sleep"?

In some cases, Firefox may freeze during startup if there is malware on your PC. If you do not find another explanation, this is worth a check: Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware.

It occurs on the first session of Windows. I had to restart several times just to get it to work again. It finally did (Hence why im able to actually post this question) then started working again for the next several days before happening again. I felt like posting this question as this was a common but also uncommon problem.

I performed a system clean with Advanced Systemcare, and a full anti-virus scan by Norton and even used Norton Power Eraser to clean up the Registry. I have no virus or trojan horse or any malicious software that could effect me in any way. So im really confused.

more options

First off, don't use Advanced System care or registry cleaners, they will actually break your computer's registry.

Second, Make sure you have Windows up to date, and update your graphics driver. Upgrade your graphics drivers to use hardware acceleration and WebGL

Do you still have a crash? If you do, please submit the report and give the new crash id
