thunderbird asks me to try new password but correct one already confirmed, trying imap install of jo.e.cor@hotmail account, confirmed manual entries are correct
When I login to hotmail via web can log in with same details being refused by thunderbird for name and password. option box opens asking to try another password, but again, it IS the correct password.

That sounds like anti virus interference. Disable anti virus and try the setup again.
Basic surface pro 3 5I. No additional programs added except Ms student.
