When I open thunderbird, I can see all of my emails but I get a black screen if I try to open any emails. Receiving new, sending,drop down boxes are all black

When opening emails old and new the screen is black. When trying to type a new message the message is blacked out. When attempting to open the drop down menu bars it is all blacked out. Mozilla opens and closes fine, it doesn't crash nor does it reject any new messages being received.

Can you help me?
