I have been trying various configuratoions for an hour to sign into My Google from my homepage, which is google. I am now crying.

more options

I am going around in circles from one "helpful" link to another. I just want to Sign in on my Google Homepage like I could two days ago. It seems like every browser is different, so maybe if someone could just login, mirror my new firefox/windows 10 update mess, and help he find my way back to things I could do a few days ago. I can't keep going round in circles from link to link. I am ready to throw out the computer and retire to a cave. Thanks for the great evening.

I have tried starting with the three horizontal lines in the top right corner and gone to both options and addons. In History, which I assume is another name for cookies, thanks for switching it up, I have unchecked the first two boxes and checked the second two, as advised in one of the articles. I have checked "Always..." and "Keep until they expire..."

Hoping to relieve my frustration about My Google, I went to play Elvenar (Inno). It now won't let me play. Mozilla, I would like to be friends, since Chrome and Explorer were messing me up, but this has to be resolved first. You should have checked history of favourites and kept those before updating my life away. Does no one think of these things?

Your troubleshooter indicates Windows 8, but I upgraded to 10 today.

If you start on https://www.google.com/ and click the blue Sign In button, what happens?

Meanwhile, thank you for sharing your Firefox configuration information. Based on a number of suspiciously named extensions, I think you have a little malware infection. I know you would like to get onto Google right away, but something may be capturing your data so it's a good idea to clean up first. Here's my suggested procedure for tracking down and cleaning up bad add-ons, hijackers, and ad injectors. I know it seems long, but it's not that bad.

(1) Open the Windows Control Panel, Uninstall a Program. After the list loads, click the "Installed on" column heading to group the infections, I mean, additions, by date. This can help in smoking out undisclosed bundle items that snuck in with some software you agreed to install. Be suspicious of everything you do not recognize/remember, as malware often uses important or innocent sounding names to discourage you from removing it. Take out as much trash as possible here.

(2) Open Firefox's Add-ons page using either:

  • Ctrl+Shift+a
  • "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
  • in the Windows "Run" dialog, type or paste
    firefox.exe "about:addons"

In the left column, click Plugins. Set nonessential and unrecognized plugins to "Never Activate".

In the left column, click Extensions. Then, if in doubt, disable (or Remove, if possible) unrecognized and unwanted extensions. Bear in mind that all extensions are optional, none come with Firefox, and you can learn more about them by checking their reviews on the Add-ons site.

Often a link will appear above at least one disabled extension to restart Firefox. You can complete your work on the tab and click one of the links as the last step.

Any improvement? Can you regain control of your home page?

(3) You can search for remaining issues with the scanning/cleaning tools listed in our support article: Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware. These on-demand scanners are free and take considerable time to run. If they finish quickly and especially if they require payment, you may have a serious infection. I suggest the specialized forums listed in the article in that case.

Success?

Hmm, it also indicates you have Firefox 30, which is a fairly ancient version now. After the clean-up, please install Firefox 43 using the following procedure:

Clean Reinstall

We use this name, but it's not about removing your settings, it's about making sure the program files are clean (no inconsistent or alien code files). As described below, this process does not disturb your existing settings. Do NOT uninstall Firefox, that's not needed.

(A) Download a fresh installer for Firefox 43.0.1 from https://www.mozilla.org/firefox/all/ to a convenient location. (Scroll down to your preferred language.)

(B) Exit out of Firefox (if applicable).

(C) Rename the program folder as follows:

(64-bit Windows folder names)

C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox

to

C:\Program Files (x86)\OldFirefox

(32-bit Windows folder names)

C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox

to

C:\Program Files\OldFirefox

(D) Run the installer you downloaded in step (A). It should automatically connect to your existing settings.

Does a cleanly reinstalled Firefox start up and run normally??

Note: Some plugins may exist only in that OldFirefox folder. If something essential is missing, look in these folders:

  • \OldFirefox\Plugins
  • \OldFirefox\browser\plugins

I have reinstalled the newer firefox. I get a cookie mismatch window when I click on my Google login. Firefox refuses to reinstall my yahoo toolbar. It has some danger warning I can't override with the Allow tab. When I log in to Elvenar, I get kicked out immediately. These are the same problems I listed before taking all the same steps as before and adding a malware bytes scan to top it off.

Off to sleep, with a more optimistic outlook on tomorrow.

Were you able to clean out all the suspicious extensions?

I haven't heard of that error before. Perhaps someone else will have a new suggestion for that.

Are you installing from here: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/yahoo-toolbar/ ?

When I log in to Elvenar, I get kicked out immediately.

That sounds like another cookie issue.
