Firefox will not remember my setting for 'Remember search and form history'

Firefox will not retain this setting The setting is in Options - privacy - Remember Search and Form history It is a check box. I set it to checked. It works fine until the browser is shut down and then it reset back to unchecked. Please help

Note: Some software, like Advanced SystemCare with Surfing Protection, can protect files in the Firefox profile folder against changes. If you have such software then check the settings or uninstall this software.
