My Thunderbird email works on my phone (BlueHost) and in the direct Insignia platform. But it keeps forgetting my PW on the Thunderbird platform itself. Why? Is this a SquirrelMail issue?

sounds more like you are being prompted for a password because the connection failed. We see a lot of that when anti virus firewalls block Thunderbird for reasons only known to them
