Firefox updated without my consent, can I roll back without having to re-install everything?

Firefox updated automatically (without asking me) despite me having set update settings to "Check for updates but let you choose to install them". (setting is still set to that, even after update that didn't ask)

Is there any way of migrating back to the previous version without having to re-install the entire browser and all that comes with it? I had a truckload of addons and customizations that I basically require to function and I'm not keen on reinstalling that stuff because some moron at Mozilla fucked up.

I downloaded 56.0.2 (64-bit) from support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/install-older-version-of-firefox . I shut FF, ran the download, and everything was back to the way it was before the update painlessly. YMMV.

Of course, it's not a good long term solution, but hopefully extension authors will catch up to the changed platform sooner rather than later,

Please edit your post re: language at the end of your post as this is a public forum.

Support Volunteers do not code.develop or make changes to Firefox , but we can help you with troubleshooting your question.

Make the changes or I will have to report this, so now please.

What exactly are you asking me to do? Adding "re: English" at the end of my post title?

Thanks, gonna give it a shot.

Yeah, let's hope it comes soon. I can't live without TabMixPlus, a proper dark theme and automatic tab recoloring.

@Karl,Here is a ftp site of older FF versions. You can find 56.0.2 there as well. Make sure you check your "Options" and go to the options on how FF updates and check the option "never check for update" that will stop FF from updating. https://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/releases/

Already had 56.0.2 downloaded when writing the question. Just haven't pulled the trigger on installation yet. I'm also well aware of the update settings. Firefox just seemed to ignore them this time for some reason..

Woop, woop. Simply installing it through the installer seems to be working. I'm back to my old slower, but far more functional setup :D

Thanks pirround, I was pretty reluctant to do anything to risk losing all my customizations.

This is the proper answer to this :

Going back : unfortunately 56.0.2 is no longer safe to use for every day use do to security issues, but 52.5.0 ESR is. It will continue to get security updates until May 2018, and you can download and install it from this page: https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/organizations/all/ Note : Legacy Extensions will be deleted or removed in any version update after May 2018.

You should make a backup of your Profile before going back and just because: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/back-and-restore-information-firefox-profiles

Please let us know if this solved your issue or if need further assistance.
