Create a search engine
It is no longer possible to add a custom search engine. That's a very, very user unfriendly decision.
So I want to create my own search engine "addon". Where can I find instructions/tools for doing this?

What would it do?
There is some work behind the scenes to allow users who do not display the search bar to add a website's OpenSearch plugin from the Page Actions (•••) menu or from the One-Off button bat at the bottom of the address bar drop-down. This is moving slowly, so Firefox 60 at the earliest, maybe Firefox 61.
I use Mycroft to create new or edit search engines.
Started by Mozilla years ago under MozDev and split off about 5 years ago to its own domain and website.
