I have an IMAP account that is being temporarily turned off for a few months. I am keeping my local mail copies in Thunderbird, but I do not want mail checked for this account.

I have already unchecked the "check for new messages at startup" and "check for new messages every X minutes," but I would like this account skipped when I manually select "get all new messages." Currently, it checks the account, which doesn't exist, and returns a popup with username failed...which it should. I then cancel.

Before I do anything stupid, was wondering if I just remove the server info...or would TB then ask me for that?

export the folders in their entirety with the import export tols add-on.

https://addons.thunderbird.net/en-US/thunderbird/addon/importexporttools/

Export as type MBOX.

Import again into Thunderbirds local folders account "folders".

Once your mail is in "loacal folders" you can delete the imap account. Nothing else is really satisfactory as there is no "disable" option for accounts and when the account on the server goes, the mail in the account in Thunderbird will also synchronize into oblivion. The export and import breaks the account and server link so they are "just" email that will sit in your local folders for ever.
