If I select to download a file on a website and at the "What should Firefox do with this file?" prompt I leave it on "Open with" and click OK, the file downloads but does not open. If I click on the download progress toolbar item and click on my downloaded file, it does not open. If I click the "Open Containing Folder" icon on my downloaded file it will open the folder and I can double-click the file and it does open. No error messages are displayed when the file does not open from within Firefox.

It is possible that (anti-virus) security software is causing the problem. Try to disable security software temporarily to see if that makes a difference.

Thank you for the quick response; Unfortunately I cannot disable the AV on my laptop, corp has it password protected. I didn't feel it was the AV since the files do download and I am able to open them via other means, just not through Firefox.

Tomorrow I will have them disable the AV temporarily to test and will post the result.

Thank you again.

Good afternoon, I just tried with AV disabled and the issue persists.

Well the good news is that this is working again, the bad news is that I don't know what fixed it. I received notice from our IT department that some updates were installed and I needed to reboot, which I did, and now I can open downloads from within Firefox. I had rebooted my computer several times before and this problem persisted so I can only assume that something in the update that IT did made a difference.

Thank you for the help.

I spoke too soon, shortly after the reboot the behavior of not being able to open downloads from within Firefox has returned.

We are experiencing the same issue when we upgraded from 69.03 to 71.0, has there been an updates to this issue?

Was there ever a resolution for this?

Unfortunately I am still experiencing this issue. It's of slight comfort to know I'm not alone, at least I know I'm not crazy!
