I just had my OS reinstalled with Win 10 32 bit on my 64 bit system. When I try to up or download anything from the web, FFox freezes and need to exit it with End Task. Could the 332 bit win 10 be the problem?

I tried it in safe mode, same problem.

are there some settings I can look at? I tried Chrome and no problem downloading, Hope someone can help I like FFox more then the others.

even when I go to clear cookies from a site like this one https://www.sandiegouniontribune.com/ by clicking the padlock icon, and select Clear Cookies and Site data, it freezes.

I can download and Save programs top right of the screen.

Is there a particular reason that you are running a 32-bit version of Windows 10 on a computer that has the ability to run the 64-bit version? Generally, you should be running the 64-bit version (as most modern computers can support that) and there are a number of performance pitfalls to running a 32-bit version of Windows. The most notable performance issue being that a 32-bit OS can only ever use less than 4GB of RAM.

That said, a 32-bit program can run on either a 32 or 64-bit version of Windows, but a 64-bit program can only run on 64-bit Windows. So if you have a 32-bit Windows, you need the 32-bit version of Firefox. Otherwise, Firefox won't open.

Generally speaking, the Firefox download page should automatically select the correct version of Firefox for you.

However, I'd still recommend (if possible) to switch to the 64-bit version of Windows 10. There's no extra cost from Microsoft to change the version to 64-bit.

Certain Firefox problems can be solved by performing a Clean reinstall. This means you remove your Firefox program files and then reinstall Firefox. This process does not remove your Firefox profile data (such as bookmarks and passwords), since that information is stored in a different location.

To do a clean reinstall of Firefox, please follow these steps: Note: You might want to print these steps or view them in another browser.

  1. Download the latest Desktop version of Firefox from mozilla.org (or choose the download for your operating system and language from this page) and save the setup file to your computer.
  2. After the download finishes, close all Firefox windows (or open the Firefox menu New Fx Menu and click the close button Close 29).
  3. Delete the Firefox installation folder, which is located in one of these locations, by default:
    • C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
    • C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox
  4. Now, go ahead and reinstall Firefox:
    1. Double-click the downloaded installation file and go through the steps of the installation wizard.
    2. Once the wizard is finished, choose to directly open Firefox after clicking the Finish button.

More information about reinstalling Firefox can be found here.

WARNING: Do not use a third party uninstaller as part of this process. Doing so could permanently delete your Firefox profile data, including but not limited to, extensions, cache, cookies, bookmarks, personal settings and saved passwords. These cannot be easily recovered unless they have been backed up to an external device! See Back up and restore information in Firefox profiles.

Hope this helps.

yeah I have no idea why that tech shop did that, their excuse was 'well your old Win 7 was 32 bit'

now need my computer more then ever, don't want to wait for 5 days like before.

Wesley Branton, what do you mean by 'There's no extra cost from Microsoft to change the version to 64-bit'

so I can just upgrade to 64 bit? The Tech computer shop who installed the 32 bit Win 10 says they have to backup everything, wipe everything and then reinstall all my files Etc?

if I can just upgrade, can you give me a link to some instructions??

Sorry for the confusion. What I mean is that there is not extra cost to purchase a new Windows license key, since a key is good for both 32-bit and 64-bit.

There would still be a cost if you were to get a computer repair company to perform the change.

If you want to do the upgrade on your own, this website has done a good job outlining the upgrade process. Naturally, you will want to save all of the files that you want to keep to a USB device, since upgrading Windows 10 will wipe your files.

That said, if you aren't familiar with installing Windows 10 or are not entirely comfortable performing the upgrade steps on your own, having a professional perform the required work is probably the best way to go.

OK I did the clean install, and my 'firefox freezes when uploading or downloading' issue still persists. Anything else I can try??
