when creating new message, changed tab and RET behavior

Greetings: It used to be (less than a month ago) after typing in the "To" address, I could hit RET and it would open a CC field, or hit TAB and go straight to the Subject field. Now hitting TAB or RET is just a wasted click. Have I done something inadvertently to change this behavior? Thank you, Lou
