How can I replace the crappy Linux home page (using Mint 20.0) and replace it with the traditional Firefox homepage? Firefox and Mozilla have been no help at all, which I feel is pretty sorry support for their users. They know exactly what the problem is and why it exist.

services.sync.prefs.sync.browser.startup.homepage = true already

This is not a Firefox issue, the Linux Mint team is responsible for that advertisement, accordingly you should blame them, not Mozilla.

Anyway, see https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-to-set-the-home-page and enter about:newtab as "Custom URL".

Note that services.sync.prefs.sync.<pref> prefs only set what pref to include in syncing prefs. The basic pref in this case would be: browser.startup.homepage

You can try the Firefox version from the official Mozilla server if you currently use a version from the repositories of your Linux distribution.
