FireFox no longer has Open New Window under File menue

I just tried to open a new window using File, New Window. It is GONE. I always use that. Now all I get are New Tab New Container Tab (grayed out so I can't select that) New Private window, some other stuff.

The same is true if I right click. I get: Open Link in New Tab Open Link in New Private window.

What did I do to cause these changes?

Hi petejc, Check your settings -

Menu -> Settings -> Privacy & Security -> History see if you are set to Never Remember History or Always Use Private Browsing Mode

Yes, that was the problem. I really don't see the connection. Why can't I open a link in a new window if I'm not saving history? No need to answer that question. I can remain one of those mysteries.

BTW I did it because I am creating and editing webpages and too often I get old unchanged pages after I changed some content.

Thanks, nice job.

You can open a link in a new Private window. It doesn't go backwards. Think of "normal" window as the King and Private as the serfs.

Anyway, have you ever thought of creating another Profile to use for your editing?
