I Cannot restore 3/1 or 2/29 Bookmarks!!! What's going on with Firefox??? Now, all there is in my Bookmarks are five listings saying, " BS2trash folder for undo of bookmark deletes- DO NOT REMOVE ..."

I wouldn't have to do this except that somehow, a Bookmark folder disappeared. All too often is has occurred. I have many, many very important Bookmarks. How can I get them back---and soon?

I created a new Profile and did not allow the default option to bring in previous settings. In the new Firefox that opened I then went to Manage Bookmarks and selected the save Bookmark that was marked as valid as reported earlier and I got the same message as before, which is, "Unable to process backup file" which is attached!

I really need to be able to use all my Bookmarks and functionality of Firefox soon!

The new Firefox profile shouldn't have the choice to open backups from the older profile unless you navigated to the bookmarkbackups folder in the old profile.

You can use the bookbackreader tool to create an HTML backup and import this backup in Firefox or open the file in a Firefox tab and check its content.

I apparently navigated to the old Bookmark backups to restore the Bookmark backup.

It hasn't been mentioned why I cannot restore a valid Bookmark backup in a new profile. How do I use the bookbackreader tool to create an HTML backup that I can actually import in Firefox? Since the Bookmark backup is valid, it wasn't explained why I can't import it. Is this a bug?

I need to get this fixed soon.

Thanks

You can try to restore an earlier backup to see if you can find one that works.

You should see the steps to create an HTML backup further down on the bookbackreader.html page.

I have already tired to restore other Bookmark backups and I get the same message as reported.

As for seeing the steps to create a HTML backup, there are none but there is a button that I clicked on which did. I saved it and tried restoring it and nothing happened. No message at all appeared.

Again, I need help to fix this problem soon!

Does the created HTML backup look correct and do you see all the bookmarks if you open this file in a tab (drag the file in a tab or on the '+' or use Ctrl+O) ?

You didn't copy places.sqlite to the new profile ?

Boot the computer in Windows Safe Mode with network support to see if that makes a difference.

I dragged the HTML file that was valid according to the bookbackreader tool onto a New Tab and it was shown properly. Again, when I Restore a compressed Bookmark backup, I get the error message I have reported before which is, "Unable to process backup file." When I Restore a Bookmarks HTML backup file, nothing happens including no error message. I have not tried to boot Windows into Safe Mode with network support yet. Windows seems to be working fine. What about doing a complete uninstall and reinstall of Firefox?

Again,I really need to get this problem fixed without delay.

Hi Wayne, the bookmarks.html file would be added to your Firefox using the Import feature:

Import Bookmarks from an HTML file

In some cases, the bookmarks will land in their original locations, in other cases Firefox will created an Imported Bookmarks folder, either at the bottom of the Bookmarks Menu (Alt+B) or in Other Bookmarks.
