Firefox does ot remember my passwords (it did originally) I have checked the box under settings but Firefox still does not remember and when I go back it is unchecked again. I have tried updating, uninstalling and reinstalling but no change. Edge remembers OK but do not like edge and have tried other browsers but did not like as much even though they saved passwords.

You can't have multiple Password Managers enabled at the same time, if you have others like Trend Micro Password Manager or RoboForm, the builtin Firefox Password Manager will be disabled.

If you have the "Trend Micro Password Manager" installed, uncheck the password Protection box in its configuration or uninstall this application via the Windows Control Panel.
