Password recording. Formerly, every site requesting a password, Firefox would ask me whether to record or not. Firefox no longer asks me and does not save site passwords. What changed?

I have changed laptops about 6 months ago. On the previous laptop, Firefox asked me if a site password was to be saved. I enjoy the Master Password option. It is useful, but now Firefox does not ask me to save the passwords. How can I get this option back?

Make sure that you do not run Firefox in permanent Private Browsing mode.

  • You enter Private Browsing mode if you select: Tools > Options > Privacy > History: Firefox will: "Never Remember History"
  • To see all History and Cookie settings, choose: Tools > Options > Privacy, choose the setting Firefox will: Use custom settings for history
  • Deselect: [ ] "Permanent Private Browsing mode"
