At the FAFSA.ED.GOV web site I am clicking START HERE to fill out online applications. It is telling me I have a non compatible browser. What do I need to do??. I am running Windows 7 with Firefox 5.01

Contact them and tell them they are behind the times. The current official version of Firefox is now 5.0.1. If they are not interested in correcting the software, you could use User Agent Switcher to send a fake 3.6 Firefox user-agent.
Install Portable Firefox 3.6.x to your hard drive and use that to access the FAFSA website.
