Hi I updated to the latest flash player 11.4.402.287 today, both the activex or plugin versions appear in the flash manager. However, I am unable to play flash videos in youtube, the bar at the top indicates "Install missing plugin" I have repeated the installation process, it does appear to complete successfully, but again when attempting to play youtube videos the "install missing plugin appears" and videos will not play.

I have also installed and re-installed the latest version of firefox today, thought that may help, seem to have the same problem. The flash player isn't listed in the plugin add on list. I'm not sure what else to do or what the problem could be.

I would appreciate any advice, please

hello, i think the download of flash 11.4 for windows at adobe's site includes the 32bit & 64bit plugin versions, so that hopefully shouldn't be the issue. can you try the troubleshooting tips that were offered in the following thread (step-by step) and see if this can resolve the issue: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/937543

Are you using some beta or experimental version of FlashPlayer ?

If I visit Adobe's flash player site

I see the latest versions being listed as 11.2 and 11.4

Can you give links regarding the 13.4 version you installed, including any release notes and system specs for that version please.

Sorry, I mean't flash player 11.4.402.287 the latest version. I have reinstall carried out a clean install following adobe's instruction, used uninstaller and reinstalled, still will not play youtube videos. I'm not having this problem with the activex version ie8 works ok.

I have checked the flash manager and both versions appear to be installed.

Its strange, the "install missing plugins" banner appears in youtube, when I go through the install process all seems to go well, it reports a successful installation, but when returning to youtube the banner re-appears. really not sure what to do, don't recall having this problem previously.

Thanks, John

I wonder if you attempted to install a 64 bit version of FlashPlayer ?

Firefox is normally a 32 bit version when installed in Windows and so needs a 32 bit FlashPlayer even if is a 64 bit OS

Thanks John. Maybe, would the installer not automatically detect which version?as I say both versions plugin and active x appear in flash manager. How can I tell a 32 or 64 version?

I have also tried downloading flashplayer to my desktop, and then "install from file" within add on manager, it reports that the file is corrupt.

Ihave also temporarily disabled firewall and antivirus software, while installing, as apparently this can sometimes cause problems. Its really very frustrating as not sure what else to do. Best Wishes

Shaun

H Shaun,
I am using Ubuntu at the moment. I am not sure if the Adobe installer recognises you are on a 32 bit browser and even if it does it presumably allows you a choice, but why not just check and ensure it is a 32 bit version you have installed; and if in doubt uninstall and reinstall.

If Flash is installed and suitable for Firefox it should show as a listed plugin so if it does not show something has gone wrong, and there can be little expectation of Flash working in Firefox.

Thanks John. Maybe, I wasn't given a choice re 32 or 64 versions, how can I tell? as I say both versions -plugin and active x- appear in flash manager, but not in the firefox addon list, how can that be? I'm really out of ideas, using ie8, for the moment. If you have any more suggestions, John would be pleased to hear from you.

Best Wishes Shaun

Brilliant! Problem solved, thanks very much. I copied the entire contents of flash to the plugin folder. Youtube works perfectly well now, I'm so pleased.

Thanks to all for your help with this.

Ideato,
deleting or renaming pluginreg.dat is a good call. (Although it will not help if the 64 bit plugin is installed)

Many of the firefox profile files will regenerate themselves if deleted and that is a standard method of trying to fix problems: delete a possibly corrupt file to see if Firefox will work when the file is regenerated. The easy way to do that is often to use the new Firefox Reset method

Personally I do not particularly like that feature. It does of course often work, whereas a reinstall may not because the user would by default leave the profile and original program files and folders. My worry is that users may get and accept a recommendation to use the FirefoxReset feature without realising what may be lost, and without a recommendation to first of all backup the profile.

Deleting, (or better still renaming) pluginreg.dat is a suggestion in

John thanks for the info "(Although it will not help if the 64 bit plugin is installed)" , the "reset firefox" option it is not so great to me also, and i think and for others contributors too.

thank you
