Firefox not responsing repeatedly since new video card installed.
Not having issues with any other programs, or any games, but since this upgrade, Firefox has gone to not responding repeatedly. Seems to happen a lot on pages with a lot of pictures. Usually, it starts with the tabs displaying a bit oddly, not rendering their edges properly. At this point, no tooltips display on mouseover of things. Continuing to work without restarting the browser results in it eventually locking up. Disabling hardware acceleration doesnt seem to help either, it just results in menus appearing transparent when this starts. Card is a Gigabyte geforce 660ti. I've cleaned out the drivers and tried both the latest stable and beta drivers. Reinstalled firefox. Tried with add-ons disabled. Tried upgrading the the latest beta version. Still, the problem persists.

The Reset Firefox feature can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your essential information. Note: This will cause you to lose any Extensions, Open websites, and some Preferences.
To Reset Firefox do the following:
- Go to Firefox > Help > Troubleshooting Information.
- Click the "Reset Firefox" button.
- Firefox will close and reset. After Firefox is done, it will show a window with the information that is imported. Click Finish.
- Firefox will open with all factory defaults applied.
Further information can be found in the Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings article.
Did this fix your problems? Please report back to us!
Ugh. i figured running without addons would do the same thing. But, i reset, and it seems to have stopped. So thanks!
Tried again this evening, and its back again! So solution canceled.
Can you attach a screenshot?
- https://support.mozilla.org/kb/how-do-i-create-screenshot-my-problem
Use a compressed image type like PNG or JPG to save the screenshot.
Did you install any extensions or have changed prefs directly (about:config) in the new profile that was created via the reset?
Maybe a new profile without importing data like a reset does works better.
Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.
See "Creating a profile":
- http://kb.mozillazine.org/Standard_diagnostic_-_Firefox#Profile_issues
If the new profile works then you can transfer some files from an existing profile to the new profile, but be careful not to copy corrupted files.
There may be extensions and plugins installed by default in a new profile, so check that in "Tools > Add-ons > Extensions & Plugins" in case there are still problems.
Images attached of the issue occuring, and the same view after restarting the browser. The problematic one appears flat.
I have installed extensions since the reset.

However, this issue persists when running with no extensions. I will try creating a new profile as a test, with no information imported.

Created a new profile, happened about 3 minutes later with nothing done but a little browsing around. No extensions.
Try to disable hardware acceleration in Firefox.
- Tools > Options > Advanced > General > Browsing: "Use hardware acceleration when available"
In Firefox Safe mode these changes are effective:
- all extensions are disabled
- the default theme is used (no persona)
- userChrome.css and userContent.css are ignored
- the default toolbar layout is used
- the Javascript JIT compiler is disabled
- hardware acceleration is disabled
Disabling hardware acceleration makes it worse. With it off, when the problem starts happening, Firefox menus will only show their dropped shadow.
