I'm running XP64; Windows Task Manager doesn't show any instances of Firefox [not with the word firefox or mozilla]. I have firefox installed twice , once on C via xp and the other on D via Win 7. The C copy stopped about a week ago. D ran from either windows until yesterday. Today it doesn't. My anti-virus is Avast. It doesn't tell me anything about virtualization.

I tried the following:

  1. Press the following shortcut to get a Run window: [Windows] + [R]. This should bring up a window that contains a text field.
  2. In that text field, enter %APPDATA% and press Enter. An explorer window should open.
  3. From that explorer window, double-click on the Mozilla folder, then double-click on Firefox and then on Crash reports. Double-click on submitted.

The word "submitted" does not appear; only 2 installations.

If you do not have a submitted folder, then the reports may not have been uploaded to Mozilla. If you didn't get the crash reporter dialog, Firefox may have hung silently, which isn't detailed out to a file.

Your subject line references the profile manager. Are you using the startup switch for Firefox or the stand-alone profile manager?

Start > Run > firefox.exe /ProfileManager

Stand-alone profile manager: https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Profile_Manager

Run > firefox.exe /ProfileManager does not run. I went to https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Profile_Manager and tried to download ftp://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/utilities/profilemanager/1.0/profilemanager.win32.zip The download failed even with AV turned off.

I uninstalled and reinstalled firefox and its working. Hopefully, it will continue to run after the next scheduled full AV scan.

Thank you for your help.
