Error message when trying to attach document to an email: You don't have permission to open this file. Contact the file owner...to obtain permission
I cannot attach documents in hotmail or my work email using Firefox. I have not tried another search engine as suggested in other posts with similar but different issues. Yesterday a pop up asked me for permission for Firefox to access my documents, and I clicked on "no." I had never seen that pop up request before so I didn't want to take a chance of it being a virus. About a month ago I was able to attach documents to my emails.

Using Windows Explorer, I moved my documents from the "libraries" folder to "myfolder" under computer. Not sure if they got moved, or if this was just a fluke temporary fix, but I was able to email my documents successfully. There was malware that was found through one of the links provided by a responder, but even though the malware was removed, the issue wasn't resolved.
Thank you to the two people who did respond.

This is a Windows problem, not Firefox's. The link should give you all the information you need. Also thank you for posting on Mozilla Support Forums. Have a good day.
IF your trying to attach the .exe or unknown format files are not allowed for attachments in emails. Make sure your document is .doc/.docx
If your trying to attach temp files of your document is also not allowed for attachment.

Sometimes a problem with Firefox may be a result of malware installed on your computer, that you may not be aware of.
You can try these free programs to scan for malware, which work with your existing antivirus software:
Microsoft Security Essentials is a good permanent antivirus for Windows 7/Vista/XP if you don't already have one.
Further information can be found in the Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware article.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).
To Enable SafeMode
- You can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by holding the Shift key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
- Or open the Help menu and click on the Restart with Add-ons Disabled... menu item while Firefox is running.
- Once you get the pop-up, just select "'Start in Safe Mode"
If it works in Safe Mode and in normal mode with all extensions (Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) disabled then try to find which extension is causing it by enabling one extension at a time until the problem reappears.
Close and restart Firefox after each change via "Firefox > Exit" (Windows: Firefox/File > Exit; Mac: "Firefox > Quit Firefox"; Linux: "Firefox/File > Quit")
