DO SEARCHES is annoying. Tried to get rid of it, but can't.
DO SEARCHES page comes on when I start firefox. I think it started happening with the lats upgrade. I'm currently at 25.0.1 level. My default home page is NOT DO SEARCHES. I've checked under add-ons -> extensions. It is not there. It was in the windows program directory. And I have removed it from there. I have re-booted my PC several time since making the above changes. However, DO SEARCHES still comes up when I start firefox.

Hi foffan101,
Sorry you are having problems.
This is NOT because of Firefox 25.1 upgrade, it is down to other software you or someone else installed on your computer.
This on is a bit of a problem and one thing it does is change the shortcut that is used by by appending the page name, so you need to fix that after removing the rogue toolbar.
See
- Remove a toolbar that has taken over your Firefox search or home page
The addons manager method is probably better than the Firefox Reset method- noting also to use the SearchReset addon https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/searchreset/
(It runs then uninstalls itself). - AND additionally to check and modify your shortcuts,
if necessary using http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/shortcut-cleaner/
- noting also to use the SearchReset addon https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/searchreset/
- Also see http://malwaretips.com/blogs/dosearches-com-virus/
As you already have unwanted software it is probably worth checking for any other malware, use ALL of the up-to-date the tools mentioned in this article.
In future try to take care with any downloads. I would suggest it is worth looking for reviews of both the software and the download site. Then watch carefully and decline all offers of any unwanted additional toolbars or utilities.
Please post back with how you get on and whether you need more help.

You can search for do-searches (dosearches) pref(s) on the about:config page and reet prefs that point to this domain via the right-click context menu.
You can check the target line in the Firefox desktop shortcut (right-click: Properties) to make sure that nothing is appended after the path to the Firefox program.
If you do not keep changes after a restart or otherwise have problems with preferences, see:
Thank you all for taking the time to respond to my problem. In my case the resolution to the issue was in John99 reply:
o AND additionally to check and modify your shortcuts,
if necessary using http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/shortcut-cleaner/
I downloaded and ran the software> it found several hits on "dosearches" in some of my shortcuts. The one that was causing me pain was:
Shortcut Cleaned: C:\Users\...\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch\Mozilla Firefox.lnk => C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe http://www.dosearches.com/?utm_source=b&utm_medium=s32&utm_campaign=eXQ&utm_content=sc&from=s32&uid=ST3500418AS_5VMP45LQXXXX5VMP45LQ&ts=1384124806
Thanks again, --
Glad it is fixed. Thanks for posting back.
