I fixed this along time ago on the Century Link page and disabled everything and also fixed it in the about config, but with the latest Firefox update when I do just a one word search it brings up Century Links search, all other searches that are more than one word I get the usual Google.

If that happens again ....

That may be a CenturyLink Web Helper (sic) service. http://www.dslreports.com/forum/r26435215-Qwest-Opting-out-of-CenturyLink-Web-Helper-hijacking-not-worki

There is an "opt out" on this page - http://webhelper.centurylink.com/prefs.php Note: When you disable that feature, that pref is saved in a cookie. So if you clear your cookies you'll need to revisit that page and set that preference all over again; so bookmark that page, if CenturyLink is your ISP and you are using their DNS servers (which is the default, unless you changed that in the operating system).

You did not say what the problem is. What do you want to happen? What don't you want to happen?

Well, I wanted it to use Google and not Century Links search engine. Its working now though so maybe I just needed to close Firefox and reopen it.

Yeah thats what it is, the problem was that I had opted out of it a long time ago and when I visited their page I was still opted out, but it was still doing it. The weird thing is it would only use Centurylink's search engine for one word searches and Google for everything else.

That's all the DNS Web Helper services handle, single word searches that can't be "resolved". Like a domain name without adding the www. and .com - a domain name server makes a "guess" as to which website the user wants the "search for" by redirecting that type of search to someone that will pay them for those redirects.
