Can you tell me how to delete unwanted contacts which don't appear in my address book but come up as options when I begin to write a new message?

For example, after a friend has changed her email address and I have entered the new one in my Address Book AND deleted the old one, I still get offered both when I begin to enter a recipient in the "to" line.
