XPCOM cannot load (win10)
Originally I got this message for Firefox. I did a complete uninstall and did a clean re-install from an outside source (flash drive) the minute I fixed FF Thunderbird crashed with the same problem.
I have done several uninstalls and clean re-installs from outside sources and from Mozilla directly. nothing works.
I have Tbird on a Win 7 computer but I really need this on my active computer

a reinstall over the existing one from getthunderbird.com should fix that issue.
I tried installing from a flash drive over the program and then I dl'd and saved to desktop (instead of downloads folder) and installed over the program - neither one worked
Sort of learning on this one.... so I am doing what we usually do and looking at Firefox as it is usually months ahead of Thunderbird with problems.
where I find things like https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/972465
But I am wondering if we might be seeing something somewhat new for Thunderbird. Firefox recently release a 64 bit version, Thunderbird is still 32 bit. Your posting here was from a 64bit version of Firefox.
Given Windows keeps files in different places for the different versions.
Uninstall Thunderbird per the link for firefox. + R In the run box type %PROGRAMFILES(X86)% Delete the Thunderbird folder if it is not already gone and Delete the Mozilla Maintenance service folder if it is still there.
Well this is special - Now I have nothing.
I did the uninstalls and then had to upgrade FF. surprise, surprise cannot load XPCOM
I did a clean install from a flash drive (dl from my win7 laptop) using the 32 bit FF and nothing works.
I tried installing Tbird first - no go.
I can go back to the 64 bit FF and see if it will function 8{
next...
You appear to have an irreconcilable error
I did re-install the 64 bit and that now works. I'm debating whether it is worth trying to get Tbird at risk of losing FF.
Do you get the same error if you start *Windows* in safe mode? - win10 http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-10/change-startup-settings-in-windows-10
sorry but Tbird is not worth the loss of a functioning Win10
I think I will just find another email program. the problem is with Mozilla
