Hi, i just updated my firefox to the latest one (48.0 i think) and ive noticed when i type something all my bookmarks and history fall down beneath the url window and it covers like half of the screen displaying my bookmarks and history relevance to the letter i typed. how do you remove this and make it how it was prior to the update?

Thanks

Hi Dayne2015, there's no built-in way to restore the earlier address bar drop-down design, but there are some ways to do that using add-ons. Those include:

(1) The Classic Theme Restorer extension. This extension is a Swiss Army Knife of user interface customization. You should plan to spend at least 5 minutes with its options dialog to get the look you want. The part related to the autocomplete drop-down is under Location Bar (3).

https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/classicthemerestorer/

(2) Custom Style rules. Many parts of Firefox's interface can be modified with style rules, which you can apply using either of these methods:

As an example of how style rules can modify the drop-down, you can explore my user style here: https://userstyles.org/styles/122394/url-bar-tweaks-remove-visit-search-limit-width

For example, you can either narrow the new style, or roll back to the old style. If you use that method, let me know if you have any questions.

Hi, thank you so much for your reply, just wondering with the classic theme restorer it seems to take the mozilla browser very far back. i like how mozilla looks like right now, just want to get rid of the big url drop down. is it possible to use the classic theme restorer to change it to how you want it to look? or does it just give you literally the 'classic' theme look and nothing else?

Thanks

If you like the UI in Firefox 48, forget about using the Classic Theme Restorer extension. The User Style - https://userstyles.org/styles/122394/url-bar-tweaks-remove-visit-search-limit-width - 'fixes' just the address bar. You'll need the Stylish extension for that User Style and it can be installed from that User Style page.

Hi, i downloaded the addon classic theme restorer, i clicked on firefox preset and it's brought the browser to what it looks like now.

how do i modify the address bar so that it stops displaying my history/bookmarks etc when i type a letter?

also everytime firefox does an update and i install it will it overwrite my changes from the classic theme restorer?

Thanks

Firefox updates should not modify your saved settings. Of course, sometimes an update will make some settings obsolete, but that's not very common.

To control what Firefox suggests on the drop-down, see this article: Address bar autocomplete suggestions in Firefox (there's a section called "Changing your location bar settings").
