Downloading any file on Firefox (Stable) crashes it and the only way to terminate it is to use forcefully end the process via task manager. I've already tried resetting Firefox (although I'm running on a clean Surface Pro 2017). I downgraded from v56 to v55 and the same issue is present.

This issue does not appear on my other Windows 10 machine (Desktop) and that system is running v55.0b3 (stable). Firefox Developer v57 works fine though with all my plugins running as usual on all my systems.

Any guesses to what is the problem?

We're sorry to hear that Firefox is crashing. In order to assist you better, please follow the steps below to provide us crash IDs to help us learn more about your crash.

The crash report is several pages of data. We need the report numbers to see the whole report.

  1. Enter about:crashes in the Firefox address bar and press Enter. A Submitted Crash Reports list will appear, similar to the one shown below.
  2. Copy the 5 most recent Report IDs that start with bp- and then go back to your forum question and paste those IDs into the "Post a Reply" box.

Note: If a recent Report ID does not start with bp- click on it to submit the report.

(Please don't take a screenshot of your crashes, just copy and paste the IDs. The below image is just an example of what your Firefox screen should look like.)

I found the following crash reports on my Firefox. The gap between the timestamps is due to me not using (stable) Firefox during that period of time.

I will just post this here as I am confused by your System Info It says you are running Firefox 55.0,56.0 Then under More System Details it shows Firefox/57.0 Am totally confused on the above.

Ya you got issues in the crash. Can you check please what version you are running and that you do not have 2 versions running please.

Also a Firefox update ver 56.0.1 will be released to the public in hours. Can not say for sure but by tomorrow. That may or may not fix the issue if running ver 56. Think you may have to do some cleaning since shows running 2 versions and then save your bookmarks and profile if so need to and download the Full installer from here https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all/

Please let us know if this solved your issue or if need further assistance.

I just checked the crashed reports I copied over and realised this was from the aurora branch: bp-b3fdf7bb-840d-4c56-956e-497941170913 (My bad)

Just to clarify, I installed (stable) Firefox 56 first through the web installer. Because I'm a student and I need to download research papers, Firefox will hang everytime I view the mini downloads window (and depending on when it is viewed, the download may not finish). That's when I got frustrated and downloaded the offline installer for Firefox 55 to test and got the same problem. (Hence the 2 versions)

As for Firefox 57, that's the Firefox developer which I use on a daily basis nowadays. The only problem is that not all my add-ons support bleeding edge versions so I need both stable and aurora versions installed.

Ok do you have crash reports for the one that is crashing ??? What one is that again please ?

So you still need to clean up/remove both 55 and 56 and download the new full installer and install. https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all/

Suggest also use Win 10 Disk Cleanup and remove Temp files. Can also run the following to fix any Windows issues. Repair System Registry and Files

(FOR DOING Above & Below - WINDOWS All OTHER VERSIONS - Use Search To Find Command Prompt ** Enter CMD.exe to Find COMMAND PROMPT Then Right Click & RUN AS ADMIN)

To run the SFC command use the Windows key + X keyboard shortcut to open the Power User menu and select Command Prompt (Admin). Type "SFC /SCANNOW" (without quotes or copy/paste) and press Enter. For more information on using SFC, please refer to the Microsoft KB: Use the System File Checker tool to repair missing or corrupted system files

Run the Windows Deployment Image Servicing and Management (DISM) and System File Checker (SFC) tools as Administrator. The DISM and SFC tools scan the integrity of the Windows image and all protected system files replaces corrupted, damaged and incorrect versions. (FOR DOING Above & Below - WINDOWS All OTHER VERSIONS - Use Search To Find Command Prompt ** Enter CMD.exe to Find COMMAND PROMPT Then Right Click & RUN AS ADMIN)

Windows 10 To run the DISM command use the Windows key + X keyboard shortcut to open the Power User menu, then select Command Prompt (Admin). Type "DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth" (without quotes or copy/paste) and press Enter. While running DISM you may notice the process will appear to pause at 20%. After a few minutes the operation will continue.

Ok, so I have done the following:

1) Run sfc (including DISM, no problems.) 2) Run chkdsk (No problem) 3) Removed all (stable) versions of Firefox, deleted the profiles and all the temp files (Deleted the entire appdata/roaming, appdata/local folder and Program File Folder for Firefox) and installed the current version (56.0 - x64) 4) Updated Windows

The problem still persists even after doing a clean installation. Because it hangs and doesn't crash, I cannot get a crash dump.
