I increased font size, and minimum font size, in the preferences/display and /advanced, to no avail. I am on Mac 10.10.5

Those settings are for the text of email messages. For the lists you need an addon.

I can't give you an exact link because I'm using a tablet and the mozilla site automatically redirects me to the android version

Go to Tools|Add-ons|Extensions in Thunderbird and search for Theme Font & Size Changer.

HEY MOZILLA? WHY THE HELL DO WE NEED TO GO THROUGH THIS EVERY ()Y^#$^% TIME THERE'S AN UPDATE??

Why the hell can't you just give users the ability to change the font size in the message list pane, without having to depend on an undependable add-on that is now no longer available??????

Or maybe you can just use a font size that isn't ridiculously, INEXPLICABLY MINISCULE?
