I want Tbird to save emails to an internal hard drive instead of to the SSD which is the C: drive. How do I make this happen?

My computer runs Win10 on a 115gb SSD as the C: drive; I have the OS, apps and programs on there, but use a secondary 2Tb internal hard drive as F: for data storage.

Because Thunderbird is installed on the C:, it's storing emails on that drive. I'd like to have Thunderbird save the emails to the F: automatically rather than downloading them to the C: drive.

Is there a way to set it up to do that?

That was exactly what I needed! I thought there was some way to point Thunderbird to a new directory on the preferred drive. But copying the existing profile to the F: and "creating" a new profile that used that copy works. Thank you!

That isn't the reason. Your emails are stored in the Thunderbird profile, and the profile is located at the default location on the C: drive.

Profile files are stored separately from the Thunderbird program files. The program files are static and do not change (except when you upgrade the Thunderbird application version). Because we store profile and program files separately, you can uninstall Thunderbird without losing your messages and settings, and if something goes wrong with a Thunderbird update your information will still be available. It also means that you don't have to reinstall Thunderbird in order to delete your information or troubleshoot a problem.

You can move the entire Thunderbird profile to the F: drive. See http://kb.mozillazine.org/Moving_your_profile_folder_-_Thunderbird

Can I install TB on a 256 SSD drive while keeping profile on the larger Main Drive?
