When I try to save a download or web page to a network device or any location that is not on the local hard drive, the locations that I see outside of the hard drive in the Files program do not appear below the Other section in the save dialog. This instance of Ubuntu 16.04 is in a Virtualbox VM if that matters. Other programs such as the Document Viewer do allow saves to network devices.

This is the current version of Firefox for this OS, Quantum 62.0.

Are you sure you set permission to save to those locations from the browser.

Why would I need to do that? If so, how would I do that? I have not found any hint that I might have to set a permission somewhere. I have searched through the settings and preferences without finding anything that looks like it may be preventing any external locations from appearing on the various file open or file save dialogs.

On a nearby Windows machine the network locations on this LAN that appear in the Windows file browser also appear in the Firefox 62.0.2 file open and file save dialogs.

For those permission you need to ask at Ubuntu forum about permission since that O/S controlled where it write and access what drives and folders. And different O/S doesn't always do what each other does.
